THE UNLEASHED FURIES OF MAGA TRUMPISM AND THE END OF THE DUOPOLY GAMES

Great up-close exposé of the sociopath Donald Trump and the furies he has so successfully, so unstoppably unleashed. It merits comment.

Trump supporters are not "garbage." Neither are the refugees arriving at our southern borders seeking asylum. Neither are the long-residing millions of immigrants without papers in the interior.

But to want to vote for this fraudster demagogue, sexual predator and power-obsessed wanna-be-Führer, given all the appalling evidence accumulated over the past nine years since he came down the golden escalator, is to be, well, a veritable "schmuck" (in Yiddish lingo - a "pendejo" in Mexican Spanish), someone who has gullibly fallen to the biggest con man in modern American history.

And yet, here we are, with close to HALF of the electorate already in his pocket, again! 

How bad, and for how long, must the duopoly have royally messed things up for this infuriated, blinded with rage half of the nation to fall for this guy, done on behalf of the donor class that owns both parties? 

Pretty bad! Here's a ruling elite who has for decades now treated elections as an amusing intramural game between billionaires, and the resulting U.S. governments as just the executive committee for publicly managing its endless accumulation of private wealth & power. 

Now tens of millions are clamoring for an openly fascist cult hero manufactured by their corporate media???

Aside from the grotesque object of the manufactured, cultivated adoration of the hoodwinked masses, Maureen Dowd gets this right: the origins of Maga Trumpism goes way back, to the decades of disastrous imperialist wars and interventions, the bloated militarism, the bipartisan fiscal highway robbery, the enabling the multinational corporations pursuing profits abroad at the expense of American workers at home, etc., etc., etc. 

It's American capitalism itself, misruled by a duopoly, in its post-hegemonic era of sharp decline!

That now half of these workers have turned into long-conditioned, easy-to-dupe Trump followers, by letting their worst angels of their nature be ignited (racism, sexism, nativism, imperialist arrogance, etc.) by that despicable demagogue, willingly becoming legions of strident protofascists and re-energized racists themselves in the process, without, sadly, a smidgen of class consciousness to speak of in what is nothing but a one-sided class war they have NOT been waging, but have been losing to the plutocracy, tells you just how far gone the prior stable social contract has collapsed to favor the commanding heights of capital and crush and divide the rest of us, and how by doing so its political system has entered into its terminal spiral of chaos.

What comes next will be, above all, turbulent in the extreme, regardless of who wins. 

For how long and how bad things will get before they get better, IF they get better, is anybody's guess - the very definition of uncertainty that lies in the concept of systemic chaos.

Both parties of the American duopoly - the Dems and the Reps - and their plutocratic sponsors made this Procrustean bed the American society will now have to lie on. 

The American people at large, is not innocent in the matter. Through its own fateful choices at every turn since even before the end of the Cold War, was a willing co-participant in the phony Duopoly Games now coming to its perhaps explosive, perhaps imploding end. 

Another system of politics - either much, much worse, or much better, will have to emerge and have to be fiercely fought over to be established. It will depend on all of us.

For now, though, we got Trump and his legions of rabid supporters at the gates of American democracy. On the other side, badly "defending" these torn gates, are a bunch of discredited neoliberal imperialists, without a clue on how to really rally the people to fight for a better tomorrow. 

And then there is the American people itself, deeply divided and manipulated by both sides in this last, undemocratic, ominous edition of the Duopoly Games.

They - us - will now get precisely the government they - we - amply deserve.
